OUR PROGRAMS

MindWise Innovations

Signs of Suicide (SOS) is the only evidence-based suicide prevention program proven in randomized studies to improve students’ understanding of suicide and reduce attempts. Designed for grades 6–12, a 2016 study found it cut self-reported suicide attempts by 64%.

SOS is a program of MindWise Innovations, part of Riverside Community Care, offering tools and trainings to help schools, workplaces, and communities address mental health, substance use, and suicide risk.

Human Power Project — Ross Szabo

Ross Szabo is a leader in youth mental health and CEO of Human Power Project, which creates mental health curriculum used by over 250,000 students nationwide. An award-winning speaker, author, and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Ross has reached over 1.5 million people with his message.

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 16, he turned his experience into a mission to make mental health accessible. As Director of Outreach for the National Mental Health Awareness Campaign, he launched the first national youth speakers’ bureau, now part of Active Minds.

His curriculum, Behind Happy Faces, is used at top universities like Cornell, UPenn, Duke, and featured at Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Retreat.

Active Minds

Active Minds is the leading nonprofit empowering students to speak openly about mental health, reduce stigma, and encourage help-seeking. Founded in 2003 by Alison Malmon after the loss of her brother to suicide, the organization now supports student-led chapters on campuses nationwide.

Through education, advocacy training, and leadership development, Active Minds reaches tens of thousands of students each year, creating a national movement to change the culture around mental health.
