2018 Matt's Hero Award Winner: Stella Smyth
Stella Smyth
Stella Smyth, nominated by partner Ross Szabo, was selected as our 2018 Teen Hero. A junior at the Archer School for Girls, Stella co-founded the school’s first Mental Health Club and has been a strong mental health advocate. She served as a teen listener at Teen Line, facilitates peer support groups, is part of the peer crisis team, and leads outreach efforts to middle school students. Stella has also spoken on a UCLA panel alongside Ross, sharing her voice and leadership in the mental health space.
2018 Matt’s Hero: Jamie Weddle
Jamie Weddle
Jamie Weddle, is the middle school psychologist at Beverly Vista and El Rodeo. Over the past two years, he’s partnered with us to lead student presentations, breakout sessions, and a district-wide parent night on suicide prevention. A fierce advocate for early mental health education, Jamie is now preparing to speak publicly to expand his impact. His dedication is truly making a difference.
